Fifth Birthday Bash, July 2009

July 19, 2009. We decided that not knowing if we'd be back in our house after the remodeling was an excellent excuse for Robert to have his birthday party someplace else. We had fun at Hannah's gym party and Robert really liked the foam pit at this place so Sarah swung into action and booked one of the few party slots at Barcroft Recreation Center. They started by going over the ground rules before a warm up session then leading the kids through the various areas.

Robert was talking for days, maybe weeks about wanting to do a cannon ball into the foam bit for his birthday -- he did a great one. Cassidy followed but in her own style. One of the perks of being birthday boy was that Robert got to lead the line through the obstacle course. He had a blast (as did the rest of the kids). July 19, 2009.

July 19, 2009. Padded floors, foam pit, huge trampoline, gym mats, bars, rings! What's not to love?

After the kids had been running for 30 - 40 minutes, it was time for some early dinner. Our current favorite Mexican place, Los Tios was very helpful in suppling taquitos, beans and rice, and chips and salsa (all dairy free). And Sarah made two great Spiderman cakes -- that neither of us remembered to take a picture of, oh well -- they were both cool. July 19, 2009.

July 19, 2009. I think we did well with the goody bags (cups, in our case). After the party was officially over, a bunch of Robert's friends camped out on the stairs to eat candy, play with Bendaroos and eat candy. I was going to point to the Bendaroo web site, but it's largerly a TV commercial.

On Robert's actual birthday, we opened more presents in the morning, before I had to go to work, then Robert decided he'd like to go to Los Tios for dinner (where they put a big sombrero on him and then sang Happy Birthday). For dessert, we went to The Dairy Godmother (Robert had non-dairy sorbet). The Dairy Godmother enjoyed it's 15 minutes of fame earlier in the month when Barack Obama stopped in with the first kids.
