11. Charles Hiram Williams. Charles Hiram Williams was born August 23, 1883, on the Reed Place, near Norway, South Carolina. (See Section 8.) He received his education in the public schools near Norway, at Orangeburg Collegiate Institute, Orangeburg, South Carolina (no longer in existence), and at Georgia-Alabama Business College, Macon, Georgia. From the time of his early manhood until 1923, he engaged in farming with his father in the vicinity of Norway. For some years during this time, he managed that part of the farming interests which was located in what was called the Martin Place. In 1923, he moved with his family to a farm of his own near Orangeburg, South Carolina. He served one term (1919-1920) in the South Carolina General Assembly from Orangeburg County and, while residing at Orangeburg, served as delinquent tax collector for a number of years. He moved his church membership from Willow Swamp Baptist Church to the First Baptist Church of Orangeburg soon after arriving in his new location and remained a member there for the remainder of his life. He was active in the affairs of this church, serving for some years as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. On November 29, 1904, Charlie married Lee Maude Metts of Denmark, South Carolina. Maude was born August 3, 1881, in Rowesville, South Carolina. Four children were born to them as follows; Charles Braxton, Mattie Lee, Yates Snowden and Marshall Burns. Charlie died March 31, 1946, and Maude, November 7, 1963. Both are buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Orangeburg, South Carolina. 11A. Charles Braxton Williams. Charles Braxton Williams was born October 6, 1905, near Norway, South Carolina. He graduated from Norway High School in 1921 and from the University of South Carolina in 1925 and 1926 with the degrees A.B. and M.A., respectively. His major field of study at the University was in the field of journalism. When he graduated, the degree in this field was awarded for the first time. After leaving the University, Braxton began a career in journalism which continued until he retired in 1971. He was news editor for the Greenwood Index Journal for one year. He held a similar position with the News and Courier, Charleston, South Carolina, from 1928 to 1937. From 1938 to retirement, he was director of circulation for the News and Courier and the Charleston Evening Post, and also served on the board of directors of the News and Courier Company, the Evening Post Publishing Company, the Post and Courier Foundation and the Packet Motor Express.correction He served a term as President of the Mid-Atlantic Circulation Managers Association, received the Kappa Tau Alpha's Distinguished Award in Journalism in 1971 and the Phillips Exeter Academy's Founder's Day Award in 1978. Other honors include eleven first place international circulation awards for Charleston's newspaper boy programs. While a student at the University of South Carolina, Braxton served as editor of The Gamecock, senior editor of the Garnet and Black, president of the V.M.C.A. and president of the Clarisophic Literary Society.correction Braxton married Ruth deVineau November 15, 1933. Patricia Jane Williams was born June 5, 1942, in Columbia, South Carolina. She graduated from Bishop England High School, Charleston, South Carolina, in 1960 and from the University of South Carolina (A.B. degree) in 1964. She also studied at The Citadel and the College of Charleston, both located in Charleston, South Carolina. She has taught in public schools for the past fifteen years. Patricia married Randolph Kent Owens November 26, 1970. Randolph was born May 1, 1944, near Hemingway, South Carolina. They have two children, Jane Marie and Randolph Kent, Jr. Jane Marie was born July 20, 1972, and Randolph Kent, Jr., October 21, 1974. Both were born in Charleston, South Carolina. 11AB. Charles deVineau Williams. Charles deVineau Williams was born September 6, 1944, in Columbia, South Carolina. He graduated from Bishop England High School, Charleston, South Carolina, in 1962. He attended the University of South Carolina for three years. Charles served in the United States Navy for two years. From 1970 to the present time, he has been connected with Charleston newspapers, holding positions from work in the night sports department of the News and Courier to city editor of this newspaper. Charles married Demetra Helen Philippscorrection (Toula) June 5, 1973. Toula was born February 14, 1950, in Charleston, South Carolina. April was born on Mar 23 1974.addition 11B.Mattie Lee Williams. Mattie Lee Williams was born September 16, 1907, near Norway, South Carolina. She graduated from Norway High School in 1923, from Winthrop College, Rock Hill, South Carolina (A.B. degree) in 1927 and from the University of South Carolina (M.A. degree) in 1948. She was a teacher and administrator for forty-one years in the Ridge Spring-Monetta High School system, located in Aiken County, South Carolina. Since her retirement in 1973, she has traveled extensively abroad, acting as tour director for travel agencies. Mattie Lee married Asbury LeRoy Bonnette March 29, 1927. LeRoy was born August 27, 1902, in Ridge Spring, South Carolina. He died April 20, l965, and is buried in the Ridge Spring Cemetery. One child, Jean Williams, was born to them. 11BA. Jean Williams Bonnette. Jean Williams Bonnette was born March 7, 1928, in Ridge Spring, South Carolina. She graduated from Ridge Spring High School in 1945 and from Winthrop College, Rock Hill, South Carolina, in 1949. She received the degree, Bachelor of Science in Piano, from Winthrop. Jean married James Arnold Holston, Jr., an ordained Baptist minister, August 12, 1949. James was born May 31, 1924, in Augusta, Georgia. Four children were born to them as listed below: James Arnold Holston III was born September 15, 1954, in Camden, South Carolina. He graduated from James F. Byrnes High School, Spartanburg County, in 1972 and from Lander College, Greenwood, South Carolina, in 1976. He is currently a sales representative for Duke Power Company in Greenville, South Carolina. David Williams Holston was born March 7, 1957, in Charlotte, North Carolina. and died March 10, 1957. He is buried in the Ridge Spring Cemetery. Allan LeRoy Holston was born March 24, 1958, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He graduated in 1975 from Woodmont High School, Greenville, South Carolina, and attended the University of South Carolina for four years. He is presently employed by the Michelin Company in Greenville, South Carolina. Jean Bonnette Holston (Jeanette) was born September 25, 1961, in Charlotte. North Carolina. She graduated in 1978 from Woodmont High School, Greenville, South Carolina and is, at present, attending Lander College, Greenwood, South Carolina. Jean, widow of the late Rev. James A. Holston, died Saturday, August 12, 2017 addition. 11C. Yates Snowden Williams. Yates Snowden Williams was born February 12, 1910, near Norway, South Carolina. He graduated from Orangeburg High School, Orangeburg, South Carolina, in 1927 and from the University of South Carolina (B.S. degree in Commerce) in 1931. Yates Williams was president of the student body at U. of S. Carolina in 1929. addition Shortly thereafter, he became Assistant Comptroller of Standard Oil Company (Indiana) with headquarters in Chicago. He later held the same position and in the same place with American Oil Company. Yates married Mae Alice Williams August 27, 1934. Mae was born August 9, 1910, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Two children were born to them, Yates Snowden, Jr., and Betsy Carol. Yates Snowden Williams, Sr. died September 19, 1972 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Orangeburg, South Carolina.correction 11CA. Marshall Burns Williams was born January 17, 1912, near Norway, South Carolina. He graduated from Orangeburg High School, Orangeburg, South Carolina, in 1929 and from the University of South Carolina (B.S. degree) in 1933. He also received the LL.B degree from the same University in 1936. In 1970, the Law School of the University of South Carolina conferred on him the J.D. degree. Marshall, in addition to engaging in the practice of law in Orangeburg, entered politics early in life and for thirty-four years has been a member of the General Assembly of South Carolina, representing Orangeburg County. No other person has served a longer time in this capacity from Orangeburg County. This thirty-four years of service includes twenty-eight years as senator. During this time, he has had no opposition at any time when he has run for re- election. This is believed to be a record unmatched in the history of the state. Marshall is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. This is a distinct honor since membership in this organization is limited to one- half of one percent of the practicing lawyers in any state. He served in the Navy in World War II and had the rank of Lieutenant Commander when he was dishcarged in 1946. Marshall married Margaret Shecut June 25, 1942. (See Section 8.) He received his education from the public schools of the community and from The Citadel, the military college of South Carolina. He lived his entire life a few miles south of Norway, South Carolina. Until about 1920, he was in business with his father, after which he engaged in farming in his own name. Oscar married Essie Gué November 24, 1907. Essie was born November 22, 1888, near Norway, South Carolina. Four children were born to them as follows: Milburn Cullen, Christine Roberta, Leila Gué and Oscar Tyter, Jr. Oscar died September 22, 1948, and Essie, October 11, 1966. Both are buried in the cemetery of Willow Swamp Baptist Church, near Norway, South Carolina. 12A. Milburn Cullen Williams. Milburn Cullen Williams was born March 22, 1909, near Norway, South Carolina. He graduated from Norway High School in 1925 and from the University of South Carolina (A.B. degree) in l929. He served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945 and had the rank of Lieurenant Commander when he Was discharged. After leaving the Navy, he taught school for a number of years. He later became a distributor for Exxon Corporation and has continued his connection with this corporation to the present time. He and his wife live in Hartsville, South Carolina. Milburn married Lilla Murray McNair June 27, 1936. Lilla was born January 20, 1905, in Hartsville, South Carolina. They have one child. Katherine McNair Williams, 12AA. Katherine McNair Williams. Katherine McNair Williams was born April 14, 1939, in Hartsville, South Carolina. She graduated From Converse College, Spartanburg, South Carolina, in 1961. Katherine married Richard T. Harvin April 14, 1961. Richard was born February 15, 1939, in Hartsville, South Carolina. They have two children, Katherine Williams and Jennifer McNair. Christine Roberta Williams was born November 3, 1910. near Norway, South Carolina. She taught school in Calhoun County, South Carolina, For twenty-six years and has been active for many years in the affairs of the Resurrection Lutheran Church, Cameron, South Carolina, where she and her husband now live. Roberta married Julius Philip Dufford June 25, 1933. Philip was born August 15, 1907, in Lone Star, South Carolina. Four children were born to them as follows: Julius Philip, Jr., Robert Tyler, Milton Williams and Ephraim O'Neal. 12BA. Julius Philip Duffrd, Jr. Julius Philip Dufford, Jr., was born October 15, 1934, in Lone Star, South Carolina. He graduated from Newberry College, Newberry, South Carolina, in 1958correction. From 1958 to 1960, he served in the armed forces of the United States, spending a considerable part of his time in Germany. He is currently connected with the Lockheed Missle and Space Company, Charleston, South Carolina. Julius married Beverly Joan Utsey on November 19, 1961. Beverly was born January 30, 1934, in Harleyville, South Carolina. They have two children, Kelly Jo and Donna. Kelly Jo was born July 8, 1963, and Donna, November 7, 1965. Both were born in Summerville, South Carolina, where they are now in shool. 12BB. Robert Tyler Dufford. Robert Tyler Dufford was born January 27, 1936, in Lone Star, South Carolina. He graduated from Newberry College, Newberry, South Carolina, in 1957, and from South Carolina State College (M.A. in Education), Orangeburg, South Carolina, in 1975. He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962 and, when discharged, had the rank Specialist - Fourth Class. From 1963 to 1967, he was Recreation Director of the Y.M.C.A., Charleston, South Carolina. In 1967, he began teaching in Branchville, South Carolina, and has continued in this position to the present time. Robert married Judith Carolyn Cook on August 20, 1966. Judith was born June 6, 1943, in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. They have two children, Susan Lynn and Jennifer Gail. Susan Lynn was born January 5, 1969, and Jennifer Gail, August 22, 1972. Both were born in Branchville, South Carolina, and are now attending school in this town. 12BC. Milton Williams Dufford. Milton Williams Dufford was born June 25, 1939, in Lone Star, South Carolina. He graduated from Cameron High School, Cameron, South Carolina, in 1957, and from Newberry College (B.S. degree), Newberry, South Carolina, in 1961. He is currently working for a graduate degree at the University of South Carolina. Milton served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1967. He was a Staff Sergeant at the time of discharge. In 1962, he was a Computer Programmer with the South Carolina Highway Department. from 1969 to the present time, he has held the position of Data Processing Administrator with this same state division. Milton married Margaret Esther Houck December 15, 1961. Margaret was born May 22, 1940, in Summerville, South Carolina. They have three children, Margaret Christine, Philip Houck and Nancy Lynn. Margaret Christine was born November 10, 1962, and Philip Houck, December 12, 1965. Both were born in Columbia, South Carolina. Nancy Lynn was born March 20, 1969, in Greenville, South Carolina. All three are currently attending public schools. Milton is now retired and living in Cameron SC. He was the SC State Dept. of Motor Vehicles Director and later was same in the State of Georgia. Milton earned a Masters in Computer Software Development in 1981 from U. of South Carolina. 12BCA. Margaret Christine Dufford. Margaret Christine (Christie) Dufford was born November 10, 1962 and married William Joseph Unthank (Jan. 2, 1960) on August 4, 1987. Christie is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina with a Physical Therapy degree. Christie is a home-health Physical Therapist. They live in West Columbia, SC with their 4 children: Victoria Christine born Oct. 7, 1990, William Bates born June 15, 1992, Abigail Esther born Nov. 30, 1996 and Joseph Floyd born April 4, 1998. He served in the South Carolina National Guard from 1968 to 1974. When he was discharged, he held the rank Specialist Fifth Class. He taught school for several years and is currently Training Coordinator for the Department of Health and Environmental Control, a South Carolina state agency. Leila Gué Williams was born October 2, 1913, near Norway, South Carolina. She graduated from Greenville High School, Greenville, South Carolina, in 1930. She attended Winthrop College, Rock Hill, South Carolina, and a business college in Greenville, South Carolina. She married Frederick Coleman Kendrick December 25, 1931. Frederick was born in Elba, Alabama. While serving overseas as a clerk in the United States Armed Forces during World War II, Leila was stricken ill. Soon after returning to the states, she died April 13, 1946, and is buried in the cemetery of Willow Swamp Baptist Church, near Norway, South Carolina. 12D. Oscar Tyler Williams, Jr. Oscar Tyler Williams, Jr., was born May 7, 1920, near Norway, South Carolina. He graduated from Norway High School in 1937. He attended Furman University, Greenville, South Carolina, for two and a half years. O.T. currently lives on his farm near Willow Swamp Baptist Church. He has engaged in farming and the dairy business all of his life. He is very active in the affairs of Willow Swamp Baptist Church where he currently teaches a Sunday School class. He is well-known in the community as a soloist. O.T. married Edna Carol Hanks June 14, 1941. Edna was born November 30, 1921, in Belton, South Carolina. They have six children as follows: Glenn Tyler, Randolph Cullen, Robert Oscar (Bob), Harriet Jane, Elizabeth Nancy and Rebecca Roberta. 12DA. Glenn Tyler Williams. Glenn Tyler Williams was born April 26, 1942, near Norway, South Carolina. He graduated from Norway High School in 1960 and attended a junior college for one year. He served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1969 and is currently engaged in the farming and dairy business. Glenn's first wife was Linda Sturkie whom he married December 21, 1961. Linda was born October 27, 1943, in Cope, South Carolina. Two children were born to them, June Lynn and April Denise. June Lynn was born April 13, 1963, on the Island of Bermuda. April Denise was born January 27, 1968, in Orange Park, Florida. Glenn's second wife was Jeri Pou. They were married September 19, 1975. Jeri was born December 5,1949, in Columbia, South Carolina. 12DAA. June Lynn Fanning. June Lynn was born April 13, 1963. She now resides in Neeses, SC. Her first born son was Tyler Aubrey Priester, born April 22, 1985. Tyler was just recently married to Lindsey Gardner Brown, February 26, 2011 Lindsey was born August 06, 1985. They reside in Summerville, SC. June's second son, Braxton Allen Fanning, was born April 19, 1993, and still resides with his mother and father in Neeses, SC. correction 12DB. Randolph Cullen Williams. Randolph Cullen Williams was born September 9, 1945, near Norway, South Carolina. He graduated from Norway High School in 1963 and from Gardner Webb College (A.B. degree) in 1971. He is currently engaged in the farming and dairy business near Norway. Randy married Mary Raye Woodson August 17, 1968. Mary was born October 4, 1945, in Greenwood, South Carolina. They have two children, Randolph Grant and Steven Ryan. Randolph Grant was born June 22, 1972, in Charlotte, North Carolina correction. Steven Ryan was born July 21, 1975, near Norway, South Carolina. Randolph Grant is currently attending Jefferson Davis Academy, Blackville, South Carolina. Randolph ("Randy") died July 16, 2015 and is buried in the Willow Swamp Church cemetary addition. 12DC. Robert Oscar Williams. Robert Oscar Williams (Bob) was born January 22, 1948, near Norway, South Carolina. He graduated from Norway High School in 1965 and attended the University of South Carolina for two years. He is presently Vice-President of Williams Supply Company at Norway. Bob's first wife was Jacquelyn Ann Horger. Jacquelyn was born March 8, 1951 , in Orangeburg, South Carolina. They were married August 10, 1967. Two children were born to them, Dana Gretchen and Regan Noel. Dana Gretchen was born September 25, 1969, near Norway, South Carolina. Regan Noel was born May 30, 1973, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. They are both currently attending public schools. Bob's second wife was Ronnie Hokulani Long. They were married April 1, 1978. Ronnie was born October 26, 1956, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. They have one child, Michelle Jean, who was born October 25, 1979 in Norway, South Carolina. 12DD. Harriet Jane Williams. Harriet Jane Williams was born January 8, 1952, near Norway, South Carolina. She attended Winthrop College, Rock Hill, South Carolina, and the University of South Carolina. She presently has a position involving health education for the State of South Carolina. Jane married George Thomas Clayton, Jr., March 18, 1973. George was born January 12, 1948, in Alliance, Ohio. Elizabeth Nancy Williams was born February 8, 196l, near Norway, South Carolina. She graduated from Hunter-Kinard High School, Norway, South Carolina, in 1979correction and is currently attending the University of South Carolina. Elizabeth married Ernest Leland Smith, Jr., July 28, 1978. Ernest was born May 30, 1952, in Norway, South Carolina. 12DF. Rebecca Roberta Williams. Rebecca Roberta Williams, the twin sister. of Elizabeth Nancy Williams, was born February 8, 1961, near Norway, South Carolina.
