Crash! Bang! -- October, 2007

October 8, 2007.

Quoting from the blog posting 10/8:

Sarah was distracted by my call while Robert and I were out for a walk. I started off with something like, "Hi, Robert wanted to stop off at the playground on our way homeā€¦ OUCH!" and I hung up. I called back about a minute later to ask her to come pick us up. Robert had tripped up on the steps and bonked his head on the top step — it was a pretty deep cut. So Sarah swooped in, picked us up and we went off to Alexandria's emergency room.

We walked out 3 hours after the fall (pretty good, in my book) with 4 stitches just above Robert's right eye. Physician's Assistant Danielle said Robert was her best patient all day — normally I would think she always says that, but he was a great patient and put up with the cleaning and stitching very well. It could make a good sword-fighting scar; but I don't expect the scar to last.

The stitches only needed to stay in 4 - 5 days. We stopped by Robert's regular doctor's office Friday morning to have them taken out. Again, Robert was a great patient: he was a little worried when Dr. Russell pulled his chair up so close and got out the tweezers and scissors, but he relaxed quickly when it didn't hurt.

In the afternoon, we headed down to Prince William Forest Park. Thanks to Bob and Mark for planting the idea in my head. The weather has finally turned cool and we both needed to get out of the house. We got there late and only had time to quickly check out the visitor center and walk around one very short loop trail. But we also checked out the campgrounds -- pretty impressive for being only 20 miles away from home. October 12, 2007.

October 12, 2007. While hard to tell in these photos (it was getting late and kind of dark in the woods), we did not get the spectacular shiner I was expecting. And the wound seems to be healing very well. What is not hard to tell in these photos is that Robert is not suffering any ill effects -- he had a fun time running around in the woods, stopping occasionally to rap a tree with his stick. (Oh, and he insisted on getting the toy cardinal from the gift shop -- hard to turn him down after the exciting week he had.)
