Cole Croft sent these minutes around to the family mailing list on August 25, 2013.
Happy Sunday, Hendry's!!
I hope you were all able to make it through the week after a jam-packed weekend of family, food, and laughter!! I am SOO proud to say that this past reunion saw our largest numbers in recent history with over 50 Hendry's in attendance!
For those of you who were not able to attend this event, please contact me with your name, phone #, email address, and home address to make sure I can contact you through various methods regarding future Hendry endeavors. Even if you're sure I already have your updated info, if you were not in attendance at the 2013 reunion this past weekend, please send me your current or updated contact info so I can update my records.
The 2013 Hendry Family reunion was scheduled to take place at noon, on Saturday August 17th, at Memorial Park on Tybee, but the weather was horrible so we ended up renting the "Old School Cafeteria" on the corner of 5th and Butler, now a part of the YMCA.
As family entered, they were greeted by myself (Cooper Williams' granddaughter and 2013 reunion planner, Cole Croft), and asked to update their contact information and fill in a name tag. We are making an effort to switch most of our communication to email with a hope that we can save money on postage and so most in attendance provided us with their updated email address.
More than 50 Hendry's were in attendance coming from as far as New York, and enjoyed smoked sausages, hamburgers, pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, salad, boiled peanuts, and a loaded desserts table that included Cindy Hendry's OUTSTANDING Hummingbird cake.
Our family historian, Leland Williams, updated our genealogy information to make sure that any mistakes were corrected. The family tree took up two long rectangular tables! He also made a point to remind us that he is old (haha) and will be passing down the genealogical responsibilities to David Williams (who unfortunately was not in attendance) and Carolee Williams and Doug James' eldest son, Alex James.
After lunch we discussed several points of interests including the timing for our 2015 reunion. Due to the high attendance, we believe that August is a good month to plan for since school has not quite started for everyone and that Tybee offers 3 day rentals, making it more convenient for those staying in the Hendry house rental. As time gets closer, we will reevaluate that idea. We also sent out a plea that the Hendry Reunion fund had been mostly depleted due to the price inflation of stamps, catering services, and the real need due to weather to host our reunions in a rented indoor venue (as opposed to a free outdoor pavilion.) Our plea was met with open pockets and we received donations of around $200. The Hendry's were asked to expect a small hike in the cost to attend our 2015 reunion.
Several of our members also discussed various games, activities, and entertainment, and awards that we would like incorporate into our future reunions. I will be looking for a member to delegate as "activities director" for our 2015 event. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me. Or, I will follow in the Hendry family ways and volunteer someone. ;-)
Afterward, Steve Williams and Alex James gathered us all for an updated family photo (attached). And our 2013 reunion came to a close.
