The note attached says:
Pvt. Hiram Williams, Company I, 20th South Carolina Infantry.
One of three brothers who served in Company I, Private Williams was killed at the Battle of Cedar Creek. His brother, James, saw him fall. Private Williams is buried in Stonewall Cemetary, Winchester, Virginia.
Photograph provided through the courtesy of Leland H. Williams, Alexandria, Virginia. Mr. Williams, who is planning a family reunion with three of his brothers at Cedar Creek this weekend is Private Williams' great-grandson.
Unfortunately, I don't remember which reenactment of the Battle at Cedar Creek served as that brothers reunion.

I like this photo - I think David has hair like his great-great-grandfather and also the facial structure. I don't see this in Loren or Steve; but I also see it (facial structure) in Lee and Carolee.

Loren thinks the re-enactment was in 1994. We went in the van from Alexandria. We visited the graveyard where I was amazed at the ages of the participants - mostly teens, 16, 17, 18...

Cornelia confirms 1994. That was the 130th anniversary of the Battle of Cedar Creek. In 1990, I led the 17 living great-grandchildren of Hiram to refurbish his very badly worn tombstone. We simply had it cut on the reverse side and replaced with the new cutting in front. We took this opportunity to correct his company designation from "D" to "I," based on research by Braxton.

I just came across this site, with this picture of Hiram, he is definately one of my ancestors.
I have been doing genealogy on my Williams line for about 3 years now. I have collected some info on the ancestors but not much. I would like to connect with anyone who has ties to this family and compare family info as well as photos, as I am in the process of creating a genealogy book for this Williams line. Anyone who would like to contact me may do so at Williamsgenealogy@yahoo.com. Thanks, Anna
