It was another toasty hot day and we decided to take the canoe to the river. This time we went to Old Angler's Inn and paddled up to the Virginia Chute. The water was low and bordering on warm, but still refreshing. It seemed like a good place for a dip. So we tossed Robert into the current several times. Of course we couldn't let him have all the fun...
I don't think we really scared off the kayak class that was there when we showed up. The were practicing rolls and ferries and peel outs. But by our third float through, they finished up and headed back downstream. We had the rapid (and seemingly the whole river) to ourselves after that.
We got out, had a little snack and some cold juice (this canoe thing is pretty nifty: having space to carry a small cooler), and jumped back in again. Just like the kayaks we practiced our rolls, ferries and peel outs. It was a very nice way to spend a hot day. |
