While Sarah was up in New Jersey helping to move Ian out of Columbia and stash his stuff in Harry and Elle's new basement, Robert and I had a night on the town. After his baseball game, we headed down to Market Square where the Navy Band Cruisers was playing. They were a lot of fun. As they played, more and more folks were attracted to the square. At first, it was almost like a private concert, but by the time it was over, there was a good crowd.
They did a very nice selection of jazz, rhythm & blues and classic rock. It took a while, but Robert ended up dancing for most of the set along with a bevy of younger and older kids. The adults tended to hold back.
We showed up early enough, courtesy of the new hybrid King Street Trolley, to grab a snack across the street and run into one of the lead singers. That seemed like good assurance that we would not miss the start of the show. We staked out a prime spot, which was easy as there didn't seem to be that many folks in the know about the concert.
The kids loosened up and the band seemed to be having a good time and the weather was perfect. Just enough overcast so there wasn't any glare, warm but not hot. A great evening to be out on the town. (That's Robert in his green number 12 shirt and yellow Hillcats hat.)
After the concert, we stopped off at King Street Blues on our way home for dinner and then ended up walking back up King Street, looking for a trolley but we beat the bus back. Robert slept in a little bit (but not much) before getting up Sunday for a birthday party in Glen Echo. And Sarah came home (with David Z. for a brief visit) just long enoug after our return to let us wrap her Mother's Day present. |
