We took advantage of a surprise visit from Robert's Uncle Neil (Sarah's sister-in-law's brother) to do some
playing around the mall. It's time for the trains to come out at the
Botanic Garden so Robert and I caught up with Neil and Sarah there.
They went in earlier in the day to tour the Capitol (and the new tourist center complex built to accommodate
visitors to the Capitol). This year, the trains were all inside -- which was OK with us as it was a chilly day.

The cool models of famous DC buildings were on display again along with more fanciful trains and environs
this year. There was a caterpillar train and what looked a bit like an alien train along with the more standard fare.

Neil and Sarah continued their tour of the sights while Robert and I stayed with the trains for a while longer.
When we left, we went to check out the outside garden on our way to see what else we would see. I think
Robert's reaction to having his ear snuffled by a moose is just about exactly right.

Further proof of getting to all the monuments...

Robert and I headed to the building museum to see about the kid's space there (and maybe lure Sarah and
Neil into meeting us, depending on where they were and how much fun we were having). But the kid's space
and most of the rest of the museum was closed for a rehearsal of
"Christmas in Washington."
Checking out the lights, cameras and action was lot of fun. We convinced Neil and Sarah to joining us in
listening to the rehearsal.
