It may have been a cloudy, drizzly day, but we made the best of it by trying out Alexandria's latest in mass transit: A free trolley-bus that runs up and down King Street and the water taxi across the river to the new National Harbor complex. National Harbor is so new, it's still very much under construction.
The water taxi provides a new view on Old Town, it really is too bad the weather was not nicer. On the other hand, I expect we'll take this trip several more times with out of town guests.
The up-close view of the new Woodrow Wilson bridge was interesting. We've been watching a video about how this bridge is being built (Robert is very much into construction these days), so going under the bridge and seeing the construction barges and tugs was worth the price of admission. The new National Harbor complex (at least what is built so far), is not that exciting. Fancy hotel fare, several fountains and several restaurants (lunch was not bad, but cost about what you'd expect for a fancy hotel a boat ride away from the nearest competition). They did give The Awakening, a favorite sculpture that used to be in DC at Hain's Point, a permanent home -- we'll have to go back to get a picture of that though... I'm sure we'll be back to see how the place grows up.
