Sarah has very fond memories of her rocking horse (and summers at horse camp) so when Harry asked what Robert wanted for Christmas, she said a Rocking Horse. However, Amazon has been out of stock for while. We finally found another on line shop that had them in stock so while Sarah and Robert were at the store this morning, I put together his Rocking Horse. (I anticipate many more "some assembly required" toys for Robert, I hope they all go together as smoothly as this one -- I was very happy to see Radio Flyer separated the hardware into one bag per step. They may be using more plastic, but they are saving hours of frustration.)
It's still a little big for him to try to mount (and dismount) on his own, so while he's napping, we moved it out of his play room to make sure he has an adult with him we he goes riding -- which we expect to be very frequently.
(10 days later, he can mount all by himself -- but it still looks a little scary to his folks.) Robert and I enjoyed the view out the back window of the Metro train on the way home from work. It's kind of cool to watch the lights zip by, and really cool on the stretches above ground. And it was interesting to me to see an Exit sign in one stretch of tunnel by Braddock Road. I can't imagine where that exit would lead.
After a January of 70 degree days, we finally had some real snow this weekend -- to bad it was the weekend, we might have gotten a snow day otherwise. Robert enjoyed his introduction to sledding. Maybe next year, we'll be sending him down by himself...
In the spirit of the Winter Olympics, now going in on Turin, Italy, we returned to for a second session in the afternoon. This time we headed to the back of the Masonic Memorial for a two stepped run that dumped us on the wet, slushy parking lot. This time Robert was willing to be towed back up the slope -- that seemed to be almost as much fun (for him) as going down the slope. (Thank you Michelle for the snow suit!)
It's too bad that the snow has melted as much as it has, Sarah and Robert might be able to get out for one more sledding session on this snowstorm tomorrow. Stay tuned.
