Robert starting walking on his own very soon after our return from
Tuscany -- not surprising since he had a lot of
practice and many helpers there willing to walk him around. Here is his showing off in
the hallway and | ||||||||
We took advantage of Robert's age and his rookie status with birthdays to celebrate the day after his birthday (a Saturday). The day started out at home with Robert's introduction to Krispy Kreme doughnuts (actually, he got the extra special start of an eyelash wish before his birthday candle wish). Of course, we helped him eat his doughnut, but he would have been happy to eat it all himself.
After getting the sugar rush started, Robert was introduced to opening presents (I don't think he really got the concept over Christmas, back when was a baby). He seemed to start to get it now, but this new gadget took some exploration before he was sure he liked it.
Later in the morning we went to Taylor's house for her birthday party. Adam and Nanette did it up right with ballons and cake and all the trimmings. Taylor introduced Robert to the "Learning Home" we got him for his birthday. He enjoyed playing with it visiting her, and she's really gotten a lot of mileage out of hers.
Most of this group comes from the St. Elmo's mom's group inadvertantly started by Sarah. They took a picture (serveral, actually) late last October on the couch in St. Elmo's and that was recreated on Taylor's couch. From left to right we have: Caroline, Robert, William, Taylor (birthday girl), Riley and Mia.
After the couch photo and a few minutes to regroup, the cake came out for Taylor... And in a very nice touch, Nanette gave Robert a birthday cupcake with the birthday candle on it. Things got a little messy after that....
Of course the mess was not permanent. After the consumption of impressive amounts of suger, the kids were back at having fun.
