We returned to Bulter's Orchard July 1st. The weather was spectacular and it was blueberry season. Of course, our real reason for going was to confirm McCloskey's description of blueberries going into a tin pail in Blueberries for Sal. The blueberries were so popular they were taking pickers from the parking field to the picking field on shuttles (they were running 4 shuttles non-stop while we were there). That let them better control which rows and bushes were picked. McCloskey was proven correct: blueberries go "Kuplink, Kerplank, Kurplunk" when dropped into a tin pail. And they are tasty to eat in the field.
While we didn't fill up any of our three pails, but we did pick 3 blueberry bushes pretty clean. That turned out to be enough berries for two very tasty cobblers (which required a quick trip to whole foods for soy ice cream -- I suppose you can eat blueberry cobbler without ice cream, but it really is so very nice a la mode).
We thought it would be fun to see what peas look like on the hoof -- they were also in season. So after our tractor ride back to the parking field, we headed to the pea field to pick some English and Sugar Snap peas.
