Robert's birthday (July 22nd fell on a Thursday this year; a Thursday that happened to coincide with a
visit from Robin, the co-worker who insisted we meet each other. So it was fun to start the birthday celebrations
with just family. After a birthday party at camp, we went out to an Ethiopian birthday dinner (Robin's
suggestion since there is "no ethnic food in New Hampshire") with one other AARP co-worker.
|
We opened presents after dinner, but it was pretty late and there was no protest (from Robert) to a
shower and bed with the promise of new things to play with the next afternoon. So Friday, Robert's first
choice was this cool marble maze. That was followed quickly by the remote controlled cars. Then we got out the
snap electronics just before bed-time. Saturday was to be big day: a trip to the Lego Store.
As part of the pirate themed birthday, Robert opened a treasure map which turned out to be a map to the
Lego store. After some hard shopping (including building your own Lego people out of all the various pieces),
we headed to Wasabi for a sushi lunch before the trip back home to start work on the Lego creations.

But the really big day was Sunday: we decked out the back yard in pirate paraphernalia and balloons.
And the moon bounce (one of Sarah's best purchases) was up along with the sprinkler (thank you next door
neighbors Audrey Joy and parents).
|
There was bracelet making -- the boys enjoyed it, but the girls really got very serious about that work.
It was hot -- low 90s -- but we have nice shade. And we set up some fans and had plenty of cold juice and
water in addition to the sprinkler.

Did I mention that the girls were really into the crafts?

Robert enjoyed showing off the pirate ships he helped build and paint. Walking the plank seemed like
a natural addition -- and Sarah got the kids really into a walk the plank with a spoonful of water to
fill up a cup game.

The tire swing (thank you Chris) and sprinkler where hits. Of course, the cake was the main attraction for
this gathering. (And did I mention that the girls really got into the bead-work?)
