As part of a trip to Ireland, the Williams grandparents came through Alexandria to pick up Robert and David and head to the Zapolsky grandparents home in New Jersey as a suitable convoluted pre-trip-trip. Sarah was kind enough to drive the baggage car while the rest of us got to take the train from our very own Alexandria train station. The trip started with our Amtrak train being a few minutes late, so Robert got to experience a CSX freight train closer than normal. He seemed a little started and concerned, but not really upset or overly worried as the train thundered by 15 feet away.
It took no time to settle in on train 82 from Newport News to Boston. Robert enjoyed looking out the window at his backyard (initially) and the rest of the scenery.
Between the scenery watching and a few trips up and down the aisles with his grandmother, Robert was ready for his morning nap a bit early. He seemed to enjoy the train's click and clack and slept really well.
After his well deserved nap, he was ready for a nice big lunch (the Cheerios are just the appetizer) and then more playing with his grandparents.
Robert also really enjoyed the visit at Villa Zapolsky in Highland Park. And we think his grandfather really enjoyed reading his new number book to him. Even if there were only 8 - 8.5 ladybugs on the number 9 page.
Robert, being an early riser, makes it easier to get to the Saturday morning Farmer's market. Of course, most of the fun is in the getting there and getting back.... We walked down there the 18th, and Robert had a lot of fun pushing the stroller around. One of these days he's going to want to see where he's going.
Father's Day was a really nice day to go to the pool... We hooked up with Cecily, Michael and Ciaran.
I know this is sounding familiar but... another nice day in the park. Robert decided (well, I decided for him) that a trip over in the convertible was in order.
Actually, I've had designs on getting a shot of Robert to compare to his grandfather. That's David's dad in the Alfa Romeo that David's brother Loren bought in 1973 (we think the photo is in Richmond just after buying the used 1969 Spyder 1750). One key memory of this particular Alfa, Loren saying it got about 90 miles to the quart of oil.
