We took a quick weekend trip up to New Jersey to visit with Robert's Grandpa and Nona.
We drove up Friday -- on the hottest day of the year so far with temperatures in the high 90s the whole way.
But it cooled off Friday night and Saturday was a great day to visit Johnson park, where Robert enjoyed
being the center of attention.

The playground was short walk from the zoo where we enjoyed feeding (and petting) the goats, but I thought
the brown one was getting too personal when he started to nibble on Robert's shirt.

Robert got a little help from his Grandpa washing his hands before dinner. We saw this fire hydrant open on a walk around
the block -- maybe they needed just a bit more water in the Raritan River?

We had lots of time to read, relax and play on our short visit before heading down to
Grounds for Sculpture Sunday afternoon.
It's a really cool sculpture garden in Hamilton, NJ, set up by another of the famous Johnsons
(Seward, Jr., in this case).

Robert discovered a peacock to follow.
He also discovered that peacocks can be loud.

|
The garden has a very nice variety of works of modern sculpture. And they are very good at identifying
the works that are OK touch versus those which should not be touched.

They even installed mist machines to create the correct ambiance for this bathing woman in the fog scene.

One of it's more unique features is
Seward's installations
of three-dimensional, life-sized versions of famous paintings.
It was lots of fun to pose in the paintings....

I believe that's Seward Johnson, above, inserting himself into the background of The Luncheon of the Boating Party,
or, as he calls his sculpture, Were You Invited?

Even without the sculpture, the grounds were both lovely and fun.
|
We'll have to visit Grounds for Sculpture again.
