While it seems a bit early to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day, Alexandria's parade was March 1st and we walked down King Street a bit to watch. There were all the usual suspects: cars, dancers, lots of pipers, firetrucks, police motorcycles and Shriner cars. We all had a good time and I think Robert really enjoyed this parade -- he seems to be getting to the right age.
The guy on the left really looks the part of an Irish piper to me.
While the guys on the right were the most formally attired pipe band. Most of the uniforms were historical, but there was also a good contingent of present day servicemen and women. (I'm not sure there were that many service women in the redcoats.)
I think all the motorcycle riders should have been sporting the green mustache seen above -- but I only say two of them.
Robert was less worried about them coming so close to him than I expected. Maybe by this point in the parade he was
getting used to the sights and sounds. He liked the chance to pet an Irish Wolfhound -- clearly bigger than him by 100 pounds.
Robert pointed out that by four or five, he'd like join one of the dance schools to learn how to dance and join in the parade. His mom is thrilled by the idea.
The Hard Times pickup truck / horse even had a spot in the parade. I liked the green rider, but it seems like, just for the day, they should have swapped the US flag for an Irish flag.
