Saturday the 14th was cool and drizzly, a good day to spend inside; so we metroed in to the recently
reopened National Museum of American History. It was a nice way
to spend the afternoon. We stayed in America on the Move (trains, etc.) and Lighting a
Revolution (electricity) since the lines were pretty long for the Star Spangled Banner and other Americana.
Sarah was explaining that Robert's Great Grandparents came to the country on a boat not unlike this one.

You would think with all the trains we have in our backyard (including two southbound freights and one
northbound freight we saw on our way to the museum), trains would have started to lose some of their fascination.
There is just something about really big machines. And these are steam engines...

Of course, the early machines used to generate electricity and are pretty cool too.

After a couple hours of that we started to think about a little snack. That's when we happened to run into
Helen Thomas signing her new book,
The Great White House Breakout. We read the book 3 times before we got home -- it's fun.

We happened into the Invention at Play exhibit on our way out. It was OK, but
Seattle Center has spoiled us for hands on kids fun.
