Robert's day care had a trike-a-thon for the kids on Friday and it was pretty impressive. There was the expected chaos and confusion as a dozen or so 2 year olds showed up on the playground to get their helmets on (one of the safety lessons), find a trike and check out the course.
And once they got going, there were some traffic flow problems (Robert and Cole had a slow-motion collision at right). And the course was always being improved -- Robert is working on it below. All-in-all, they had a great time on a warm spring day.
And, clearly, the playground had other fun stuff to do when you weren't triking around. The ball pit is in the shade of a tent; the shade was welcome relief from the sun.
On Saturday, Robert was very helpful to Sarah as she was making banana bread.
But even though he was exhausted, he had too much allergy medicine in his system (or something) to nap. This is what happens during "quiet time" when he does not get to sleep. We had a discussion about destroying his room and he had a time out before helping to clean it up.
The next Tuesday (the 15th), Robert and I headed to the National Zoo. It was just too nice a day (still cool in the morning but getting hot in the afternoon) to not be outside and I thought it would be fun to see some of the big animals. It's hard to take photos while making sure Robert does not try to climb over any fences or run off with one of the many school crowds. We saw lions, tigers, panda bears (giant and red), beavers, seals, sea lions, very loud gibbons, other monkeys and lots of tourists and school tours. The photo at left is looking through a Robert-height peep hole at the tigers; below right is Robert comparing his paw to a tiger paw; below left is Robert playing in the "Gathering Place" monkey sculpture garden.
