Minutes for the 74th Williams-Tyler Reunion—May 3, 2014 | ||||||||||
Family and friends (25 people) gathered at the Willow Swamp Baptist Church Fellowhip Hall to celebrate the 74th family reunion. The meeting was called to order by Brenda Bell Jillson, President. Barbara Allen Coker, Secretary, read the minutes of the previous reunion and they were approved as read. This was followed by the treasurer's report prepared by Jimmy Williams. It was as follows:
Old Business A discussion was had concerning the two lots the family still owns near the Edisto River. The lots do not have sufficient access to be used for the annual reunion and a large tree has demolished the picnic shed. Jimmy Williams reported that a buyer had been located who was willing to pay $1000 each for the two lots. The proceeds for one lot will go to Swift Tyler's son John C. Tyler. A motion was made, seconded and passed appointing James C. Williams, Jr., as Successor Trustee and authorizing him to convey the lots to Lavern and Linda Dykes or their designee.
Jimmy Williams agreed to serve as president for the 75th reunion in May 2015. Barbara Coker agreed to remain secretary and Bragg Williams agreed to become Treasurer. New Business Brenda Jillson suggested having someone within the year make a video of the church and cemetary. Willow Swamp church would recieve a DVD and others could purchase copies. She also thought David Williams, Loren's son, could put a link on the family history page and link it to UTube. Barbara Williams, wife of Shelley Williams suggested interviewing Shelley since he is the oldest surviving Williams. She knows he has many memories as far back as the 1940s of the Williams/Tyler reunions and of growing up in the Norway/Denmark area. Grace Proctor was suggested as being interviewed as well. Jimmy Williams suggested someone could use an IPAD and have Shelley and Grace reminisce. It was mentioned that filming/narrating a video might be a great drawing card to entice other Williams/Tylers to come to future reunions—especially next year since it will be the 75th reunion! All agreed that Jimmy Williams would be great at coordinating this endeavor. Kay Borgstedt presented the devotion sharing 5 quotes on the importance of family. She discussed how families stick together and also referenced Matthew 6:43 and other scripture in the book of Luke. She also shared quotes from a book called Rabbi's Gift. Finally, she summed up her thoughts saying all of us should count 3 blessing before we go to sleep at night—and referenced several of the grandchildren that were currently outside playing at the church's playground as blessings. Kaye then asked the blessing and the group continued fellowship around the tables with a delicious lunch. Barbara A. Coker, Secretary |
