The preparations started early this morning (note Robert’s cool new Sponge Bob PJs). Uncle David (David Z.) and Cousin Ian insisted on doing the cooking this year. So David came over this morning to start working on the meal before he and Ian and Nick and Harry and Elle all headed into DC for a segway tour. They should be back soon to pick up where they left off. And Robert can’t wait to help more (we just need to make sure he doesn’t get much closer to the cooking knives).

Avast ye canoe

Another beautiful day means another chance to get out on the river. Unless your ear-drum is ruptured. Then you hang out on the bank, practice fishing with a kiddie-casting rod and help Robert make mud channels, mud lagoons and mud islands. Then you see how fast they’ll erode if you splash water on them. At least until someone comes by on a canoe. Then you yell, “No Pirates here, nah ah.” Then, when he comes close you go “Avast!!”, leap aboard and put on your life jacket and wave goodbye to your mommy for a quick paddle around the Potomac near Anglers Inn.

Say that fast three x in a row: ” Post-shot-snack etc. Someone was EXTRAORDINARILY brave and cooperative getting his H1N1 shot so he thought Krispy Kreme doughnuts might be in order. I agreed they were.

It’s just a bit disconcerting to hear Robert saying “No, David!” over and over again from the living his playroom. But he’s just reading, No, David! — a book which seemed to give him extra pleasure to read tonight while Sarah and I were finishing dinner…

Then he brought it over and tried to get Sarah to read it, but she only had to help with a couple words.

Robert in his nest

Today was the perfect day to rake up latest round of leaves. And Robert took advantage of the leaf pile for some belly flops before he built a nest. Not too long after this, he took off his coat and gloves because it really was a great afternoon.

Now if Sarah could just shake her flu…

Rainy day …

… and Robert is getting over the flu (we think; it was pretty mild). And Sarah is feeling under the weather. So we worked on a train layout in the playroom (the pre-Robert living room) with this cool Lincoln Log tunnel, train station, train heater.
