(This is all the blog posts in cronological order, rebuilt every
night so may be up to 24 hours out of date. It's also a big file
with lots of graphics; please be patient.)
I’m not a fan of the way the US government has taken to scooping up all the online information they can “just in case.” So I’ve ponied up for a commerical SSL certificate and this site is now https. You shouldn’t notice; if you do let me know.
Rather than repeating what’s been said by lots of other folks, here’s someone I’ve been following for a while writing about the current discussions in IETF about http, privacy and security: Counter-Surveillance by Tim Bray. He went https a while back.
I’m also happy to exchange encrypted email with you, if you’d like to have your space in yet another government database. I use GPG and my keys are here.
We’ll return to our regular topic of Robert and his family having fun now.

email too
I had been using a self-signed certificate for email which encrypts just fine. Most mail transports don't care if it's a legitimate cert or not. Since I sprang for a wildcard kayakero.net cert I thought I'd try it for sendmail as well. It took only a quick Google search to find a simple recipe and encouragement. Now instead of "verify=FAIL" in my mail log, I see "verify=OK" That seems to be working fine.

The Post talks about https
"It's clear now that anything that's potentially useful to anyone is vulnerable on the Internet. And while encryption is not perfect, routine deployment of this technology makes it far more difficult to conduct mass surveillance."
