Quick Visit to Seattle February 2023 | |
---|---|
We (mostly David) wanted to give Robert a solid quarter at school to get used to Seattle, UW and the life of an engineering student. He's doing great and it was well past time for a visit. We took advantage of the President's day weekend to say, "Hi" and meet some of his friends. | |
Of course, as part of the life of an engineering student, he had homework to do, so Sarah and I took advantage of the campus to walk down by Union Bay where we saw some of the rowing crew working out (under the watchful eyes of a pair of geese). DZ and Lynn graciously gave us Hockey tickets so Robert could show off Climate Pledge Arena. It is a very nice venue; it was great to see the Kraken win (always a plus). And it was very nice to meet Aleah, who was able to join us for the fourth ticket. | |
The next day, David Z. took King, Sarah and me to stretch our legs walking around Seward Park. And then he had to head back to work on the wonderful dinner he and Lynn made for us that night. | |
Before we joined them for dinner, we met up with Robert in the game room, Area 01, on the first floor of his dorm. The ping pong and pool games were lots of fun. We headed over to a fantastic dinner a bit later; it was the first chance we've had to see the apartment. And bonus points, Sam was there so we had some time to catch up with him as well. The work on their house is proceeding apace, and David Z. says he's sure he'll be ready to move out of the apartment when the house is ready. | |
While Robert was doing homework, Sarah and I headed to the Woodland Park Zoo (for the geeks: check out that domain, clearly the Woodland Park Zoo was early to the internet). | |
If you view the larger version of the photo on the right, you'll see how the glass is playing a trick: it looks like the Jaguar just saw someone in a red rain coat under that tree. The zoo was nice and while they did have giraffes, the giraffes were smart enough to want to stay in their barn rather than out in the cool, misty rain. | |
It was great to see Robert so well settled in and check out some of his favorite haunts. Visiting with David, Lynn and Sam was really fun (and the dinner was fantastic). We enjoyed the hockey game and we had a nice dinner with Ben (Robert's roommate) and Robert after the zoo. We're already plotting our next get together and looking forward to more time in Seattle. | |
