Seattle Thanksgiving 2024

Slide show option — just for looking at the pictures.

We flew out to Seattle for Thanksgiving — via Detroit, with a cool internal train to get between gates. David and Lynn hosted a fantastic holiday for the extended family.
They arranged a lot of really fun activities in addition to the main event. And we were fortunate enough to be able to fly out early and catch Robert working a Seahawks game at Lumen field. The 'Hawks beat the Cardinals 16-6 — but it was not a pretty game (and our tickets were not in the fancy section where Robert works).

When more of our group got to town, we took the ferry to Bainbridge and had lunch at The Streamliner Diner. The trip across the sound was lovely even if cloudy — no rain for us; check out those bits of blue sky.

David Z. arranged for a tour of the Amazon Spheres for some of us that evening. It's a very cool space, feeling very tropical inside. I'm sure that's a lovely break for folks living and work in Seattle.

There is some family resemblance.

The next morning, David booked a tour of the new building of the Seattle Aquarium for us. The focus of the new building is Pacific reef life and is more tropical than the original building; focused on the Northwest Pacific and Seattle's oceanic neighbors.

The star of the new tank is a bowmouth guitarfish; it's a very distinctive looking endangered fish. Also, very photogenic.

While we were winding up the tour, this great rainbow popped out. It was pretty long lasting and very dramatic.

The group split up that afternoon, some folks toured the Spheres, we opted to check out the Seattle Underground. The tour guide we had was great at explaining the crazy history of how this came to be and why the area is frozen in time.

That evening, we went to the Seattle Christmas Market to check out the huge variety of dinner options. And then several of us went to see the Kraken play the Anaheim Ducks. Sadly, the Kraken lost that game.

There was a lot to talk about after that fun, busy day. And final plans for the Thanksgiving cooking to work out. There was plenty of time to relax, play pool and enjoy the fantastic weather between rounds of cooking and cleaning. The weather, as you can see, was spectacular!

After the table was set, the focus was on the fantastic group meal.

To help recover from that tasty evening, David and Lynn took the group to hike the Teneriffe Falls trail. It was spectacular, and, again, the weather cooperated.

The next day, David made turkey tika masala. Another splendid meal! And we celebrated Katheryn's birthday!

The weather remained great and Sarah and I stopped off at the overlook on our way back to the Air B&B to check out the nighttime view.

Our last full day in Seattle was another stunner. Sarah and I walked down the the Aquarium again just to enjoy the great weather (and we stopped along the way for a picture or two to show it off).

Thank you David and Lynn for a fantastic time. I know it's hard to host that many folks and provide all the fun things to do. Thank you Robert for the "behind the scenes" look at Lumen Field. And thank you extended family for making the holiday so fun-filled.
