David and Ian flew out from Seattle and Harry and Elle drove down from Highland Park for Thanksgiving. Robert and David Z. had a rematch of Goblet Gobblers and then, after Robert was in bed it was time for a showdown between Ian and his dad. It was a very tense game...
The next day, after slaving away in the kitchen, David Z. and Ian talked Robert into a T-Ball/Softball/Baseball/Calvin ball game. While the weather wasn't great, it wasn't raining or too cold. Once you drop the concept of teams and go with the idea of ghost runners, it becomes an even more entertaining game.
We saw David. Z and Ian off on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (after the now traditional pool game). On Sunday, the five of us drove down to Monticello. It was a very pretty day, but cooler than November 28th 1998 when we were married. We managed to get into a tour group as soon as we showed up and enjoyed learning some of the history of the place.
It being fall, Robert brought along his football. I'm sure we're not the first to use the Monticello lawn for football -- but we were the only ones we saw that day. After the tour guide talking about all the grandchildren who lived at Monticello when Jefferson retired there, I'm sure he would have approved.
We all enjoyed the polygraph Jefferson used to write his letters so that he could keep a copy for his records. I can imagine us coming back sometime -- maybe we'll see if Robert starts to catch up with Elle's shoulder height on this statue.
