The day after we got off the river was Robert's birthday. He's now a teenager; so, of course, we started with sleeping in. Then we drove up into the hills over Lewiston and came down the old road. Not having had enough water recently, the Clarkston water park was next on our birthday celebration list.
The next day, Sunday, Robert and Sarah caught a plane back to DC — first we checked out Locomotion Park, across the street from the hotel. I gave them a lift to the airport, came back and loaded the rest of the stuff in the car and headed east. This time on 94 rather than 90, taking me through North Dakota, a state Robert and I missed on the way west.
The road to Lolo Pass is kind of squiggly... But very pretty.
The one planned stop was Theodore Roosevelt National Park on the border between Montana and North Dakota. I took a long loop north in Montana to come down to the park and was able to drive both the North Unit road and the South Unit loop road. I had not considered that the badlands stretched that far north.
As Steve promised, there were buffalo. The rest of drive was uneventful and I got home, putting 6071 miles on the car, early Thursday morning. It was a great trip but it's great to be back home with the family all in one time zone again.
If you just want river pictures (and less edited pictures) try this.
